Fon and Landatel offer a robust platform for the management of public WiFi networks within the WiFi4EU framework

  • Landatel will distribute Fon’s solution to help installers to operate WiFi network deployments in municipalities

14 September 2017. MADRID. Fon, the world’s leading WiFi technology provider, and Landatel Comunicaciones, wholesaler of communications systems and value added services, have announced an agreement to offer Fon’s WiFi Service Management Platform (WSMP) to any Service Provider (SP) interested in managing access services over WiFi networks, ensuring they will meet all the centralized authentication requirements required by the European program WIFI4EU.

Fon’s WSMP, that will be distributed by Landatel, features a centralized management console. This console allows SPs to define and segment different networks, and to apply different access modes and WiFi experiences on each segmentation. This way, the SP can easily manage heterogeneous networks from different manufacturers. Additionally, service administrators and the SP can deploy and manage multiple use cases in a unified way: use cases such as Public WiFi, Retail WiFi, WiFi on Transport Hubs, among others. Thus WSMP offers a unified management and control of different services, reducing operative costs while at the same time generating new revenue sources.

Lead by the European Commission, the WiFi4EU scheme aims to promote free WiFi connectivity for citizens and visitors in public spaces such as parks, squares, public buildings, libraries, health centres, and museums everywhere in Europe. During his presentation of the project, Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, highlighted the importance of providing free wireless internet access around the main centres of public life by 2020.

Alex Puregger, CEO of Fon, commented, “It is fantastic news that the European Union will invest €120 million in providing free internet access in municipalities over the next few years. Our solution for managed WiFi services is unique within the industry, and with it we want to support all system integrators interested in this initiative by offering WiFi services in an easy and scalable way.”
