Fon Partners with Telekom to Launch Free WiFi Service
- Telekom partners with Fon to launch free WiFi service, available at nearly 20 million hotspots worldwide
- Safe internet access for customers offered over three networks: Fixed line + Mobile + WiFi
5 APRIL 2016. MADRID & BUDAPEST – Fon, the global WiFi network, and Magyar Telekom, the largest telco in Hungary, are teaming up to provide Telekom subscribers with reliable, safe WiFi access across the country. Together, they will build the largest WiFi network in Hungary.
This exclusive new partnership will provide a quality and secure WiFi internet connection for users on the go. From today onwards, eligible Telekom customers will be able to get connected outside of their homes, without any data limitation or excess charge, in nearly 2000 localities across Hungary.
Additionally, these customers will have access to millions of hotspots in 20 countries around the world including the UK, Spain, Brazil, Japan, France, Australia, and Germany. At the same time, international Fon members will also be able to connect to all Fon-enabled hotspots in Hungary.
The network is being created using innovative WiFi sharing technology from Fon that’s being embraced by millions of people in Europe and other parts of the world. It works by customers sharing a small portion of their home internet bandwidth in exchange for using their own home broadband allowance at hotspots across the nation and overseas. Magyar Telekom will be the fifth market to enter the Fon- Telekom family, with current partnerships in Germany, Greece, Romania, and Croatia.

Now we offer our customers the experience of freedom without any limitations, beyond a simply and comfortably accessible and quality internet connection.”
Telekom’s WiFi Fon service is available on WiFi enabled smartphones, tablets, and computers with the help of a Telekom WiFi Fon application that can be downloaded free of charge. With one user name, up to three devices can connect to the WiFi network. An entire family can enjoy WiFi service on the go – all at the same time.
