Virgin Mobile and Fon partner to provide unlimited WiFi to mobile customers across Mexico

In 2016, overall mobile data usage grew by 64% in Latin America, according to GSMA. In the context of this increasing demand, Virgin Mobile Mexico is using innovative ways to enhance their communication and connectivity offering for their customers. With the combination of mobile data and WiFi, their customers will never run out of megabytes again.
Virgin Mobile Mexico has recently integrated Fon’s unique SDK technology into their best-in-class mobile app in Latin America. This integration means that 800,000 customers in Mexico can now enjoy seamless connectivity to an extensive WiFi network that covers airports, hotels, shopping centers, restaurants, and other public venues. Throughout 2018, this WiFi footprint will continue to grow to provide customers with the best connectivity experience.

Getting connected to the new WiFi service is easy thanks to Fon’s SDK: Customers simply need to download the Virgin Mobile Mexico app to their Android or iOS device. As soon as the device is close to a WiFi hotspot, customers will connect automatically, even with the app closed. Once connected to WiFi, customers will remain seamlessly connected, as long as they are in range of a hotspot. The app also gives users the option to search for WiFi on a hotspot map, manually check their WiFi connection status, and receive automatic notifications whenever they’re connected.
Fon’s SDK offers a simple way for MVNOs worldwide to open up WiFi access for their customers. Just one integration into any existing app will provide their end users with instant and seamless WiFi access. This service creates a real point of differentiation from competitors, as well as enabling the MVNO to benefit from reduced data access costs.
