Fon partner KT showcasing new, ultra-fast WiFi at Winter Olympics

With the 2018 Winter Olympics kicking off this week in PyeongChang, we’re turning our attention towards South Korea for today’s blog post.

KT Corporation, Fon’s partner since 2014 and South Korea’s leading telco operator, is an official partner for this year’s Olympic Winter Games. During the Games, KT, in partnership with Intel and with support from the South Korean government, will be showcasing the world’s first commercial 5G WiFi service at a number of Olympic venues across South Korea. This new technology can deliver speeds of up to 4.8 Gbps, which is nearly three times faster than the existing 1.7 Gbps service.

This demonstration will be the worldwide premiere of the long-anticipated 5G technology, reinforcing KT as a telecommunication industry pioneer and giving visitors to the Winter Games a taste of the future. End-users will have the chance to take part in many, 5G-driven immersive experiences at the event, powered by KT, not to mention the significant acceleration in their overall streaming, as well as data up- and download speeds.
