Qualcomm and Fontech join forces to combat poor WiFi coverage

Good morning from Barcelona! As Mobile World Congress kicks off today, we’re excited to announce a technological partnership agreement with Qualcomm Technologies. We’ve integrated our Home WiFi Solution with the Qualcomm® Mesh Networking Platform to help enable service providers (SPs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to bring advanced mesh WiFi systems to market that drive next-generation experiences.

Combining Qualcomm’s mesh technology with Fontech’s remote management system, the company will deliver a cutting-edge solution that enables operators and OEMs to better support their customers. For example, SPs will be able to diagnose issues impacting WiFi coverage in subscribers’ homes and therefore eliminate dead spots. They will also be able to identify when specific user devices are negatively affecting network performance.

But what does this really mean for SPs and OEMs? By gaining advanced visibility and intelligence, they will be able to offer the level of service and WiFi quality that users expect. This will have a positive impact on both costs and churn. And in addition, the solution empowers SPs to offer value-added services that consumers are demanding, such as parental control or guest WiFi. Delivering such services should drive additional revenues.

Originally aimed at the residential market, the solution is also suitable for small and medium businesses. The reference design is available for SPs and OEMs to integrate into their CPEs.

Qualcomm commented on the partnership: “We are excited to be working with Fontech on a turn-key WiFi reference design that is designed to deliver corner-to-corner WiFi coverage and robust performance, as well as the cloud management capabilities and intelligence SPs need to manage their vast and complex networks.” Alex Puregger, CEO of Fon, added, “Given our extensive experience in CPE software integration, we are best positioned to offer this solution.”
