Fon and Netia Announce WiFi Partnership in Poland

28 FEBRUARY 2012. WARSAW & BARCELONA.- Fon, the world’s largest WiFi network, and Netia, one of Poland’s biggest telecommunications operators, today announced a partnership to create the largest WiFi community in Poland. Due to Fon’s quick time-to-market, the Netia Fon network already has thousands of hotspots in Warsaw and will have over 100,000 hotspots throughout Poland available by spring. Netia subscribers and Fon customers can access these hotspots and the over 5 million hotspots in the global Fon network for free. Netia customers can get access to the Netia Fon WiFi network by registering with Fon from their Netia Spot.

“A WiFi offering is an important element in Netia’s strategy. Together with Fon, we’re able to quickly implement and offer our customers a WiFi experience we think they will love – the same easy access to the internet they enjoy at home, throughout Poland and even abroad.”

Martin Varsavsky, Fon CEO and founder, said:

“Poland is nearing 25 million internet users and has a growing WiFi market. Netia is Poland’s most innovative ISP and shares Fon’s vision of delivering easy access to WiFi to everyone, regardless of location. This is why we are happy to partner with Netia and to announce the thousands of new hotspots available in Poland as of today. ”

Mirosław Godlewski, Netia President and CEO, said:

“A WiFi offering is an important element in Netia’s strategy. Together with Fon, we’re able to quickly implement and offer our customers a WiFi experience we think they will love – the same easy access to the internet they enjoy at home, throughout Poland and even abroad.”

Netia has built Fon’s revolutionary WiFi-sharing technology directly into its Netia Spot routers. This technology makes it possible to broadcast two dedicated WiFi signals. A private signal for the owner and a public signal that shares the internet connection can be used by members the Fon’s community to access the internet for free. Non-sharing members can also connect to the Fon network by purchasing affordable access passes at Fon hotspots.
