KPN and Fon Start Rolling Out WiFi Network In The Netherlands

AMSTERDAM & MADRID. July 4th 2014.- KPN, the leading telco in the Netherlands, together with the international partner Fon, the global WiFi network, have started the roll-out of the joint WiFi network throughout the Netherlands. Starting now KPN customers get free internet access at thousands of hotspots in the country and millions worldwide. At the same time, international Fon members are now able to connect for free at all KPN WiFi with Fon hotspots.

Free access to Internet abroad

Thanks to the Fon technology, KPN broadband customers with a compatible modem securely share a little bit of their own WiFi at home and in return get access to free WiFi when they are on the go. There are already 13 million Fon Spots around the world, including in France, Belgium, Japan, Portugal and United Kingdom. KPN customers will be informed in advance about the roll out of the service, which is expected to be completed in September.

Free access to KPN WiFi in the Netherlands

Selected KPN customers with a mobile subscription and residential customers who have a non-compatible modem also get access to the entire KPN WiFi network within the Netherlands. International Fon members can now connect for free to all KPN WiFi with Fon. At this moment 250,000 hotspots are already available in the country and it is expected that the number will grow to 1 million by the end of the year.
