Fontech and Qualcomm Sign Technological Partnership Agreement to Deliver End-to-End, Cloud-based Home Wi-Fi Solution for Service Providers and Original Equipment Manufacturers
28 FEBRUARY 2018. MADRID & BARCELONA – At Mobile World Congress today, Fontech, the technology arm of Fon and leader in Wi-Fi solutions for operators and enterprises, announces the integration of its Home Wi-Fi Solution with the Qualcomm® Mesh Networking Platform to help enable service providers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to bring advanced mesh Wi-Fi systems to market that drive next-generation experiences.
By integrating Qualcomm Technologies’ mesh networking technology with Fontech’s remote management system, Fontech will deliver a market-leading solution that expands the benefits of great Wi-Fi with centralized management to help operators and OEMs better support their customers. The Mesh Networking Platform provides a simple way to manage an ever-growing network, creating a wireless mesh that is designed to be self-configuring, self-healing, self-defending and easy to set up. The solution will enable service providers to help diagnose issues impacting Wi-Fi coverage throughout homes to eliminate dead spots. They will also be able to identify and rectify cases where specific user applications or devices are causing network performance degradation.
This advanced level of visibility and intelligence will enable service providers to offer the level of service and Wi-Fi quality users expect, helping them to reduce churn and costs. The solution will also allow them to take advantage of new revenue opportunities by delivering additional value-added services that consumers are demanding, such as parental control, antivirus, and advanced network security.
“Qualcomm Technologies is committed to continue to bring mesh networking to the millions of subscribers whose service providers offer wireless connectivity,” said Irvind Ghai, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Atheros, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “We are excited to be working with Fontech on a turn-key Wi-Fi reference design that is designed to deliver corner-to-corner Wi-Fi coverage and robust performance, as well as the cloud management capabilities and intelligence service providers, need to manage their vast and complex networks.”
The reference design is available for both service providers and OEMs to integrate into their CPEs, access points and mesh range extenders for both residential and SMB markets.
Alex Puregger, CEO of Fon stated, “Qualcomm Technologies has been driving significant technology innovations in home Wi-Fi in order to deliver advanced user experiences. We share this vision, which is why we developed Fontech Home Wi-Fi. Through our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, we’re excited to give operators and OEMs the tool they need to provide Wi-Fi coverage in homes or public venues that simply works. Given our extensive experience in CPE software integration, we are best positioned to offer this solution.”
